Hygiene 101

While keeping your computing devices free from harmful virtual viruses on the internet is important, there is another type of harmful element that often is overlooked. The physical virus.

There are hundreds of studies that show the average keyboard and smartphone are hundreds, if not thousands of times dirtier than your toilet, per square inch of bacteria. On a busy day, I can be in physical contact with over 30 different client computers. I don’t want to even think of how many toilets that would be.

How to keep things clean

  • Wipe everything (keyboards, mice, door handles, phones, smartphones, game controllers, power buttons, etc) down with sanitary wipes. Often.
  • Avoid eating at your desk.
  • Be cognizant of where you place your phone, and please do not take it to the bathroom.
  • If you work in an area where you handle money or are in constant contact with items other people have recently handled, stock up on the hand sanitizer and don’t be shy using it.
